What is a ductless heat pump?
Also called a mini-split, it pairs an outdoor unit with one or more indoor units mounted on a wall, floor or ceiling. Because it needs no ducts, it suits older homes, additions and suites as well as new builds.
How does it work?
It moves heat rather than making it. In heating mode it draws warmth from the outdoor air and brings it inside; in cooling mode it takes heat out of your home and releases it outside. That makes it one of the most efficient ways to heat and cool a Victoria home.
Four types of indoor unit
Wall mounted
The most common choice. Mounted high on the wall, they handle living rooms and bedrooms without taking up floor space.
Floor mounted
Sits low on an outside wall, often under a window. A good fit where wall space is limited or for rooms of many sizes.
Slim duct
Hidden in the ceiling with discreet vents. Several can run from one system to even out temperatures in larger homes, with zoned control.
Cassette
Set into the ceiling and blowing air from all four sides, ideal for large open rooms without dividing walls.
Single zone
One outdoor unit and one indoor unit for a single room or area, such as a basement, attic, addition or home office. Control it with a remote or an app.
Multi zone
One outdoor unit powering several indoor units, so you can set different temperatures in different rooms or floors. Ideal for whole-home comfort in new builds and renovations.
