Single-Sided, See-Through or Multi-Sided: Choosing Your View of the Fire

The differences between single-sided, see-through and multi-sided gas fireplaces, and which rooms each suits best.

Single-Sided, See-Through or Multi-Sided: Choosing Your View of the Fire

One of the biggest design decisions with a new fireplace is how many sides of the fire you want to see. Marquis makes all three styles, and each changes how a room feels.

Single-sided

The classic choice. One glass face set into a wall makes a strong focal point for a living room or bedroom and gives you the most freedom with mantels and surrounds. Explore the Marquis fireplace collection.

See-through

Glass on two opposite faces lets one fire warm two spaces, such as a living room and dining room, or a bedroom and ensuite. The Bentley ST is built for exactly this.

Multi-sided

Corner, bay and peninsula designs show the flame on two or three sides and work beautifully in open-plan homes, where the fire becomes a room divider. Look at the Atrium and Enclave.

Questions to ask yourself

  • Where will people sit, and what should they see?
  • Do you want to heat one room or two?
  • Is there an interior wall, corner or island that suits a fireplace?
